Equipment and Location

There are a couple of places that will be easy to film.

1: My house

2: The school (maybe)

3: The park

4: Any other public place.

I could also film using green screen or heavy effects to make up for the fact that this film is low budget. The green screen could be made from a green blanket or could be bought for cheap online or at the nearest arts and crafts store.

For the equipment, I have a decent camera and I could ask to use my uncle's microphone. I could also film in my uncle's studio and record audio there for the film. Depending on whether it's needed for the plot, filming could take place there as well.

Actors that may participate in Filming

So there's a few people that could help in being actors for my film.

Immediate family

-Brother

-Mom

-Dad

Friends

-Nicholas

-Diego

-Isaac

-Christian

-James.

Plot of the film

Various ideas for this one.

I'm fluctuating between either a convict who has had various events lead up to the eventual execution/death in a cell.

Or, the life of a normal individual that has a limited amount of regretful moments.

The basic premise of this film is to show how a combination of certain series of events affect a person on both a conscious and subconscious level. Combining elements from films focused on the psychology of the characters combined with a plot device hailing mainly from Sci/Fi films.

Towards the end of the main character's life, they will be presented with a choice of being able to travel back in time with the ability to change various events in their lifetime.

Idea for the opening scene.

So when deciding to create a science fiction film opening, my first concern involved the budget of the film. I currently do not possess anything other than a couple ideas for how to go about filming for this project. I own a camera and may possibly purchase a decent mic. If not, then I can always use my phone as audio when placed near the actors.

Usually, a sci/fi movie will require some sort of budget due to the concept or idea that the film is exploring. However, a film about time travel can have a low budget and take place in a common setting. What I believe ties together a good time travel story is the writing and the editing of the scene with the performance of the actors coming in as a bonus.

Time travel can be a tricky or easy subject depending on how it's handled. The main theme for the opening scene will be regret.

The Film as a whole:

The protagonist of the film is someone who has made many mistakes in their life. The first thing seen when the film begins is the moment where the person about to die.

Regarding Content of the Film

Film Research

Genre - Psychological Thriller

Genre conventions – There is emphasis on inner conflict and turmoil within the characters. May feature physical action, however, most suspenseful and tense scenes are carried out with the intensity of the plot. Narrative usually focused around a single character or a small number of characters. Themes usually include death, purpose, identity, perception, and reality. Usually involves scenes that defy common characteristics and tropes that are often found in the movie industry. Since a psychological thriller will most likely be exploring the mind of certain individuals, the production cost for such films are quite significant. Every new psychological thriller is trying to bring something new to the table of an oversaturated market, therefore, the producers will be concerned on finding a voice and identity for the movie itself for it to be distinguished from the others of the same genre

Genre - Science Fiction/ Alternative History

Genre Conventions - Characters in science fiction films are usually regular humans who are finding ways with dealing with the aftermath of some sort of revolutionary technological, environmental and social change. However, the genre itself may not necessarily focus on the individual experiences of the individuals involved in the story, but rather, a message or the conception of the "bigger picture". Although many films in this genre include heavy use of special effects and highly intricate editing, sometimes a story like this can be conveyed with other media such as animation or vary according to/depending on the story. Stories like this tend to focus on the overall ramifications that a new technology would cause in a new world or situation. Can sometimes include conventions that are often seen in psychological thrillers, but are directed towards the specific technological change present in film. - edited 2/24/19

Introduction and First Impressions

Dear whoever is reading this, my name is Omar Villasana and I am working alone on possibly the most challenging project I've ever completed. I would like to preface this by saying that this is the first blog post I have ever published (including outside of this project), so I am not too experienced when it comes to documenting things as they are happening.

I usually just summarize events in their entirety after they have concluded and passed. However, this project is forcing me to step out of my comfort zone and write about my thought process as I'm going along.

The reason why I chose to create a film instead of a magazine is because I love the art of film-making and magic of editing. Although being somewhat of an amateur when it comes to physically shooting and setting up props etc., I have found myself editing videos since I was around 10 years old. That's why it was an easy decision to do a film as opposed to a magazine; I'm planning on using this project as a tool to further my skills with both editing, shooting, and the creative use of props and scenery to create a compelling story and build a narrative. I'm a somewhat indecisive person, so the genre, and every detail about the finished product is mostly unknown to me now. However, I am fairly certain that I want to make my project either centered around a Sci/Fi or Psychological Thriller philosophical concept.

I feel like making a film in this direction would be easy for me since I am both interested in Sci/Fi and human psychology. For a film like this, I have always felt like what drives it forward is the concept it's tackling instead of the production value or special effects.

With that said, I look forward to working on this project! -edited 2/24/19
